Dharma Night

Dharma Night

Our weekly in-person Dharma Night; “Dharma” refers to the teachings of the Buddha. You can expect to delve into how the teachings of the Buddha are relevant in our modern world and how to integrate meditation and mindfulness into your life.

You do not have to attend every week as each session stands alone and will be of great benefit to your life and practice. But you may find it helpful to come each week and build upon your knowledge.

The team leading the evenings is Vidyasakhi, Kusalaraja and Danaketu, with support from Mitras and Mitras training for Ordination.

See programme below for details of each weekly session

8 January 2025 — 19 February: The Drama of Cosmic Enlightenment — The White Lotus Sutra and the Six Perfections

The White Lotus Sutra is a tale that takes place across the cosmos but has profound consequences for our own individual, collective and spiritual quests.

This series will explore key themes from the Mahayana, particularly the imagery of the Bodhisattva and the teachings of the "Six Perfections". You can expect personal talks from our team of Order Members and instruction in meditation.

We will explore these themes in a way that is relevant and useful to our everyday lives and our modern times.

This exciting exploration is open to all levels and abilities, so you can get involved whether this is completely new to you, or very familiar. Although this is a series with a progressive theme each week, you do not need to come each week and jump in at any point.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to book?

No booking necessary. Just turn up on the night

What should I wear?

Anything you feel comfortable in. Some people find loose fitting clothes help with sitting in meditation.

Do I need to be a Buddhist?

No. Our classes are open to everyone and we regularly have people who attend but don't identify as being a Buddhist

How much experience is needed?

These classes are suitable for everyone, whether you have lots of experience or none.

How much does the class cost?

We run on the basis of Dana (generosity) which means we do not charge for the class. However we invite donations and as a guide you might like to give between £5-10 for an evening. You can donate by cash or card. If you cannot afford to donate, we still want to encourage you to come along.

Can I just come for the meditation?

If you are going to come for one of our events, we encourage you to stay for the whole duration.

Is it ok to join in the middle of the series?

Yes. Our classes do have a progression to their theme, but each stands alone too.
