Studying Buddhism with Devon Sangha

Opportunities for Dharma Study

Some would say that Dharma Study is both essential and enjoyable as part of our spiritual journey.
From the study notes: “The main aim of this course is to help people to improve their lives and mental states, rather than to give information about Buddhism for intellectual interest. But to practise the Dharma we need to know the Dharma, and Buddhist ideas have a transformative effect in their own right, by changing the way we see the world, and therefore the way we feel and act.”
Here in the southwest, we try to cater for as wide a range of study needs as we can, and as we grow, we hope to widen our offer. All our Dharma Study Courses draw on Triratna’s  4 year  Training Course for Mitras and for now, all our courses are online, with occasional in-person meetings for those who can get to them.
Year 1 (Foundation); We do not offer this at present, but please let us know if you would be interested; we’ll compile a list of names and see what we can do in due course. You don’t have to be a mitra to study year1.

Year 2

  • Danaketu and Sarah Lane are starting a new online course in November. This is open to all genders. We will meet fortnightly on Sunday evenings, with optional, informal “Mudita” sessions every other Sunday to help build friendship in the group.

Year 2/3

  • In January, Akashadevi will be offering a Year 3 course online for women mitras in the southwest, with some interspersed seasonal weekend live gatherings. The Zoom sessions will take place on Monday evenings, probably fortnightly.  Please email Akashadevi  if you would like to explore the possibility of joining this group from January 2026.

Year 3/4

  • Danaketu and Rucilila have places in their online Year 3 group, open to all, on alternate Tuesday evenings, with Mudita sessions as with year 2. This group will move to Year 4 in January.

Please email us if you have any questions or you’d like to put your name down for these courses, or call Danaketu on 07802 807674 if you’d like to discuss anything about them.

The courses are free, but we welcome regular donations to help with our running costs.

Study should sit alongside regular attendance at sangha meetings, but we will always try to include people whose conditions prevent from them frequenting a local group, so we have quite a wide geographical spread which brings a wider perspective to our discussions.
